Chasing Light In Santorini With The Leica SL2-S
Oia, where nearly every view overlooking the caldera is a postcard.
My wife and I planned a sunrise walk to beat the crowd and we were not disappointed.
Staying in Oia on the island of Santorini can only be described as nearly living in a dream. While we had some unfortunate travel bumps initially on our trip, arriving in Oia felt like we finally arrived to what we wished our honeymoon would be. We stayed at the Atrina Canava 1894 hotel, and I want to thank the staff for making our stay the best experience we could have imagined. Something about sitting in a hot tub on a cliffside overlooking the remains of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in known history lowers my stress level…
Santorini and Oia especially are very much a tourist hot spot with multiple cruises coming in daily. Thousands of people rush into the island looking for the same selfie spot as everyone else. My advice is get up before sunrise and enjoy the views mostly to yourself and with some other photographers. Some shops are open early to grab a coffee, but by the time the strong sun becomes overpowering it will be time to enjoy a breakfast at one of the many great spots.
Santorini has many locations to explore and is easily an island you can spend at least a week on. The food is some of the best I’ve had anywhere as well as the dining experience. We never left hungry from any restaurant, with some of the best seafood I’ve had anywhere.
