2026 Wings Over Western Kentucky Airshow
.
The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG DN OS Sports Lens with the 2X TC is a great do it all telephoto combo on the SL2-S.
Sometimes you get a chance to step away from the typical weekend errand running and can grab your camera and go. This past weekend was just that chance for myself, and I took advantage of that and headed to the local air show. This was my first time attending the Wings Over Western Kentucky and it was a pleasant surprise despite the weather eventually causing an early end.
Overall I am pretty impressed with the results. I think there could be a bit more improvement with the guy behind the camera and ironing out some of my settings, but again this combination is proving to be the right choice as a do it all, travel anywhere telephoto system.
I have found one new challenge that I will keep in mind for the future: actually getting a good photograph of a P-51 Mustang in flight. Not a good record here, but one I will definitely be more prepared for next time.
The event proved to be a great opportunity to put the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG DN OS Sports Lens and 2X teleconverter to the test in the field to see how it stacked up to the Sigma 150-600 I have previously used for aviation photography. This telephoto lens combo is proving to be a great do it all telephoto combo on the SL2-S. It also fits within my Wandered 21L backpack to take internationally as a personal bag. So good in fact, I keep wondering what it would be like with the new SL3-P and a bit more resolution and better tracking autofocus.
Enjoy the photos.
